The story of everyday life in a small, tight knit community - this is the core of the world`s longest running primetime drama serial and the highest rating programme in the UK. For over 40 years the series has uniquely combined cult status with popularity and durability. Set in the town of Weatherfield, Coronation Street explores the lives of a colourful variety of characters living and loving in an ordinary working-class street in the north of England.
The first episode was transmitted in the UK at 7:00 pm, Friday 9th December 1960.
Coronation Street is one of Britian`s consistently highest rating programmes and has been in production since 1960!
Writer Tony Warren. Although he was brought up in middle-class surroundings in Swinton, Manchester, Warren drew inspiration from his grandmother`s surroundings in inner-city Salford.
